Over the past ten years, Finland has taken important steps towards recycling plastic packaging. Before 2016, only separately collected business plastic packaging and plastic deposit bottles were recycled, but with the expansion of producer responsibility for packaging, the recycling rate of all plastic packaging started to increase. The EU target of 50 % recycling of plastic packaging set for 2025 is expected to be reached in the coming years.
